about
The complete live recordings 2022!
Technical Notes:
Track 1 recorded by Farmer Glitch - sound quality is questionable in places. Two short extracts featured on the "Ekztrakz" 7 inch single last year. Thanks to Steve @EPS
Track 2 recorded by Cafe Oto in-house soundman, including room ambience. Some technical issues with sound near the beginning. Special thanks to John Eden and all Oto crew for making this happen.
Track 3 recorded by Ekoplekz. Thanks to Luke @Damnsonic
Track 4 recorded by Ekoplekz. Thanks to Steve @EPS
Track 5 recorded by Ekoplekz. Thanks to Max @Zona Watusa
Tracks 3 and 4 released on cassette & CDr by Sterile Records, August 2023.
Creative notes:
You will notice that each performance is unique. This is because there is no setlist or pre-arranged tracks. Ekoplekz live is a largely improvised affair, usually dictated by the choice of gear used. This invariably leads to a certain amount of unevenness in the performances, but is (in my view) infinitely preferable to a safe/sanitised/standardised repertoire.
Ekoplekz live is also much more noisy and intense than in the studio. Expect plenty of extreme sounds and feedback-delay.
Each performance is a continual piece of evolving musical ideas with no gaps, although the Plymouth gig has a rare example of an Ekoplekz encore!
Equipment notes:
For the 2022 gigs, the main sound sources were Eowave Quadrantid Swarm, Herbs & Stones Liquid Foam, custom-built Lingua Sonica Mini synth, Benidub DS71 dub siren and EHX Crash Pad, with different rhythm boxes on each occasion - Hammond Autorhythm (EPS#1), Yamaha MR10 (Cafe Oto), Denon Rhythm Box (Plymouth), custom-built Mini Pops clone (EPS#2) and Mini Pops + Daytron Rhythm Generator (Barcelona). A big part of the performances were also the fx boxes, which included various analogue and digital echos, spring reverb tank, Small Stone phaser, equalisers, filters, compressors, flangers, etc.
